What: Wall decals hot or not for 2008?
What We Say: In the past two years, wall decals have really taken off, especially for decorating children’s room. They are fairly affordable, fun to use, and make decorating less of massive DIY job. And they seem to still be on the hot list for 2008. So are we getting sick of them yet - or have have your kids deemed them uncool? Well, some people seem to be falling off the decal band wagon, as more and more companies are popping up. I have to admit that I’m sort of getting sick of the excessive explosion of colours and childish characters that make you feel like you are in some cheap Martha-Stewart-minimalist nightmare. Anyone else been feeling this?,
However, there are a few exceptions. I’ve noticed that some designers seems to be a bit more inventive and it’s those that are catching my attention - designs that don’t scream “I’m too lazy to actually decorate the nursery”. Zuzuz’s charcoal decals are pretty fabulous. Although I have my reservations about whether or not it will teach my kid to draw on walls more…
Another one that I was pleased to come across is Blik’s ABC set. The simplicity of it is what appealed to me, instead of bright colors and fun shapes, just good old alphabet blocks. The Wee Garden set also stands out. It’s not too cutesy and the animal shapes are quirky but not obnoxious.
Verdict for 2008: still hot but getting luke warm.
Have your say on the forum.
