Creating paper plate fish is a fun art project for young children to do, especially during the summer months. Once they’re done, you can hang them in windows or from ceilings to create fun, colorful mobiles.
What you’ll need:
Paper plates
Colored tissue paper
Crayons/markers (optional)
Googly eyes
Scissors
Glue stick
Yarn
How to do it:
· Cut a triangle-shaped wedge from one side of the paper plate. This side will be the mouth.
· Glue the cut out triangle wedge to the side opposite the mouth with the rounded edge facing out. This will be the tail.
· Glue a googly eye above the mouth.
· Cut the colored tissue paper into small squares (about 1 inch). Glue the squares on starting at the back of the fish and working forward. Allow the new squares to overlap squares which have already been glued on. Children can use their imaginations for this, creating colorful designs or using all one color. The layers of tissue paper will create the look of colorful fish scales.
· Another option is to have your child use crayons or markers to make their own colorful decorations on the fish rather than gluing tissue paper.
· Once the decorating is done, punch a hole in the top of the fish. Tie a long piece of yarn through the hole. This will allow you to hang your new decoration from a hook, fixture or the ceiling.
Use your imagination and you’re sure to come up with a ton of other craft projects using paper plates and other supplies you have around the house.
