What: A bad hair day’s worst enemy . . . the headband.

What We Say: Sometimes girls’ hair can get a little out of hand and nothing smoothes snarls like a pretty headband. These ones are not only sure to keep even the unruliest hair nice and sleek, they are a little bit of dress-up for everyday wear.

~ Fun and preppy, Lands’ End has Girls’ Headbands that come in pairs ($10.50 at Land’s End). Each two-pack includes one twill headband with embroideries (I love the pink one with watermelons and the purple one with turtles) and one solid braided headband in a contrasting color.

~ A little more dressy is this classic but simple Girls’ Elastic Bow Headband ($3.99) from JCrew’s Crew Cuts line comes in orange, fuchsia, violet, and yellow. The elastic banding makes it easy to slip on and off in case mid-day adjustments are needed.

~ For an even fancier style, Gap Kids has a great Glitter Headband ($7.50). While it is a “hard” headband, it has smooth fabric on the inside to keep it comfortable for all-day wear.
